The Port Charlotte Dump and Landfill: Where Your Debris Can Go

The Charlotte County Landfill is at 29751 Zemel Road in Punta Gorda, and the county runs a mini-transfer facility for residents at 19765 Kenilworth Blvd. in Port Charlotte. Dumpster Rental Port Charlotte FL explains which one takes what, from the county's own pages.

County drop-off facility with open-top containers along a retaining wall and a pickup unloading

The Short Answer

Use the landfill for a full load and the mini-transfer site for a small residential one. The landfill charges by the ton, and the Kenilworth site takes household items from residents with proof of county residency, within limits. Neither takes hazardous waste in a general load. A dumpster handles the loads that exceed both.

The Landfill on Zemel Road

The landfill's page lists these details, read on October 13, 2026.

The page says unloading must finish by 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Confirm the hours before a trip, because the county can change them.

The Kenilworth Mini-Transfer Facility

The county's transfer-station brochure describes the Mid-County Mini-Transfer and Recycling Facility, and it is undated, so confirm hours and rules with the county before you go. It says the site serves residents who show proof of county residency, such as a photo ID with a local address or a utility bill, and that commercial and business waste is not accepted. It takes special wastes such as paint, household cleaners, lead-acid batteries, mercury lamps, cooking oil and pesticides, plus appliances, scrap metal and recycling.

The Limits Residents Run Into

The brochure sets limits that a cleanout can pass quickly. It allows furniture and refuse for 12 trips and 18 cubic yards per fiscal year and construction and demolition debris for 6 cubic yards per fiscal year, with cabinets broken down. It does not accept reroofing material, electronics, household garbage or land-clearing debris from vacant lots. A roof, a kitchen gut or a yard clearing can exceed these, which is where a dumpster comes in. See our residential dumpster rental page.

The Building Permit Number Rule

The permit number applies at the landfill. The page says haulers of construction and demolition debris must give the building permit number for the origin site, and a load without a valid number is billed $99.74 per ton against $49.88. If your project is permitted, keep the number handy. Our dumpster permit guide covers it.

Dump Run or Dumpster

A dump run suits a small load you can carry in a trailer. A dumpster suits anything that takes days to fill, anything heavy or anything the brochure's limits do not cover. Dropcurb (April 2026) puts national rentals at $294 to $480 before weight and permit charges, which are national figures and not Port Charlotte quotes. Compare that to your time, your trailer and the landfill's per-ton rate.
